Secretary
Liz Helms has over a decade of experience in the public relations field including, coalition building, grassroots advocacy, strategic planning and policy development. Her vision and breadth of issues has made her a leader in the health care arena and a recognized advocate in California, nationally as well as internationally.
Her dedication to improving the nation’s healthcare system is a top priority. Liz became an advocate because of her first hand experiences when her health plan denied her access to care. Liz currently is the chair of the California Chronic Care Coalition, an alliance of non-profit, social consumer and provider organizations united to improve the health of Californians with chronic conditions or diseases. She co-founded the TMJ Society of California, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing about changes in health care practices and laws to improve treatment for TMJ sufferers, is the interim-chair of the Californians for Patient Care, secretary for Cord Blood California and volunteers with various non-profit organizations.
Often representing voluntary health associations, provider groups and consumer organizations, Liz has testified before Congress and the California State Assembly and Senate committees on the issue of patients’ rights and healthcare practices. Presently she has been the catalyst within the chronic disease community to work with Governor Schwarzenegger's health policy division on health care reform.
